Resumen

Knowing the altitudinal limits of species is crucial to better understand their distribution, tolerance limits and interactions. This article aims to report a new altitude record for the long-tailed weasel (Neogale frenata) in Mexico. The observation was recorded by a camera trap located at 3,872 meters above sea level on El Pico del Águila in central Mexico. A long-tailed weasel is observed carrying a juvenile Mexican cottontail (Sylvilagus cunicularius). This observation expands the altitude range of the weasel in Mexico and is the second-highest record for this species worldwide. Additionally, it is the first record of the Mexican cottontail being preyed upon by the long-tailed weasel.
