Abstract
For more than twenty years there has been an interest in maintaining the continuity of populations of wild species, as well as ecological processes, in the face of habitat modifications due to human causes and, in the same way, it is recognized that protected areas are crucial for conserving biological diversity. The puma (Puma concolor) is a species classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Species, as it is considered one of the mammals with a wide distribution in the Western Hemisphere from Canada to the extreme south of Chile. However, in Honduras the puma is considered, according to analysis of its red list, in danger (EN) and with decreasing populations. The increase inhuman settlements, particularly in rural areas of the country, modifies the landscape, causing the interruption of natural ecosystems and, as a consequence, the reduction of the spaces available for the puma. The Azul Meámbar National Park also suffers from it, since more than 73 communities are located within its borders. In this work, six new records of puma for the Park are presented and potential prey are reported occurring in the sites where the species was recorded.
