Abstract

I present here the photographic record of a variegated squirrel (Echinosciurus variegatoides) when eating a flower bud of the Costa Rican pitahaya (Selenicereus costarricensis) in urban in San José, Costa Rica. The observation represents the first record of cactus floral herbivory for Echinosciurus variegatoides, which increases the number of known species reported as part of the diet for this squirrel species.
